Assay Information
An antihuman IL6 coating antibody is adsorbed onto microwells. Human IL6 present in the sample or standard binds to antibodies adsorbed to the microwells. A biotinconjugated antihuman IL6 antibody is added and binds to human IL6 captured by the first antibody. Following incubation unbound biotinconjugated antihuman IL6 antibody is removed during a wash step. StreptavidinHRP is added and binds to the biotinconjugated antihuman IL6 antibody. Following incubation unbound StreptavidinHRP is removed during a wash step, and substrate solution reactive with HRP is added to the wells. A coloured product is formed in proportion to the amount of human IL6 present in the sample or standard. The reaction is terminated by addition of acid and absorbance is measured at 450 nm. A standard curve is prepared from 7 human IL6 standard dilutions and human IL6 sample concentration determined.

Modern humans (Homo sapiens, primarily ssp. Homo sapiens sapiens). Depending on the epitopes used human ELISA kits can be cross reactive to many other species. Mainly analyzed are human serum, plasma, urine, saliva, human cell culture supernatants and biological samples.

Gene
Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory cytokine and an anti-inflammatory myokine. In humans, it is encoded by the IL6 gene. Recombinant, rec. E. coli interleukin-6 for cell culture or antibody production.
