Assay Information
Ferritin is an indirect solid phase enzyme immunometric assay (ELISA). It is designed for the quantitative measurement of human ferritin in serum or plasma. The assay is based on microplates coated with highly specific antihumanferritin antibodies. The microplate can be divided into 12 modules of 8 wells each or can be used completely for 96 determinations. Each well can be separated from the module ("breakaway"). During this procedure the binding of the analyte, as well as the formation of the sandwich complex and enzymatic color reaction take place during three different reaction phases. The amount of color is directly proportional to the concentration of ferritin present in the original sample. The optical density for each calibrator may be graphically plotted against the concentration of ferritin and unknowns extrapolated from the curve. To read the optical density a microplate reader with a 450 nm filter is required. Bichromatic measurement with a 600690 nm reference is recommended.
